BTU’s Professional Development Department offers ESE courses teachers need throughout the year: “Accessible Literacy Framework” and “ESE Classroom Strategies” as well as courses tailored to ESPs and those focusing on eLearning.

BTU ESE Strategies (20pts)
ESE Classroom Strategies (20 in-Service points) is to continue the work that has already been completed in the Advanced Level in a deeper fashion. Participants will be able to build consensus at the work site on the school improvement initiatives that will be promoted to present to the Faculty Council and/or School Improvement Team. The emphasis will be based on student achievement measurements that can be used to judge effectiveness in addition to standard test.

BTU A Closer Look at Autism (20 pts)
BTU A Closer Look at Autism (20 pts) will allow participants to have a better understanding regarding students who have autism. They will be able to change the way they educate and deal with their student’s social emotional and mental health needs utilizing the information learned via this course.

BTU Accessible Literacy Framework (20 in-service points)
BTU Accessible Literacy Framework (20 in-service points) BTU Accessible Literacy Framework (20 in-service points) is designed specifically for educators and school staff who are responsible for providing and/or adapting materials for students with disabilities who have complex communication needs, use assistive technology to access the curriculum, or require adaptive materials to participate in a learning environment. Course participants will learn specific strategies designed to augment existing curricula or to serve independently as a literacy tool to reach this academically underserved and challenging student population.

BTU FLDOE RULE Reading/ESE Requirement for Recertification (40 pts)
This 40-hour Reading/ESE course was created to fulfill the Florida statute requirement for renewal or reinstatement of a professional certificate under rule 6A-4.0051. (7)(b) states, “an educator may use earned credit for both the purposes of paragraphs (6)(a) and (7)(a) of this rule. Rule 6A-4.0051 Renewal and Reinstatement of a Professional Certificate is included below.
This course prepares educators to offer evidence-based instruction and interventions specifically designed for students with characteristics of dyslexia, including the use of explicit, systematic, and sequential approaches to reading instruction that develops phonological and phonemic awareness, decoding, and implementing multisensory intervention strategies. This course focuses on instruction in reading including oral language, phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. In addition, participants also learn about The Science of Reading as well as interventions required for students with reading challenges including ELLs, dyslexia, ADHD, SLD, and additional special needs.

Managing Antisocial Behavior
The course centers on understanding emotional and behavioral problems in students whose actions threaten both their academic success and the overall learning environment.
It presents research-based insights into antisocial behavior and offers practical strategies for reducing or preventing disruptive outbreaks in classrooms.
This course will equip educators with tools to maintain a safe, productive learning space while supporting students with behavioral challenges.
